Our Story

A real teacher. A real book. A real relationship.

Big School House exists because the hands-on, structured, relationship-driven instruction that produces genuine academic mastery has been quietly eroding, and we do not think it has to.

What we are

A credentialed professional network, purpose-built for licensed educators and the families who want them.

We are a subscription platform that connects verified, degreed teachers with families for in-person tutoring. We are built for parents who want a real, qualified teacher sitting across the table from their child.

We are not a virtual tutoring tool. We are not a gig-economy care platform. We are something quieter, more deliberate, and more demanding of both the educators we partner with and the standards we hold.

The educational industry has spent the last decade racing toward screens. Virtual sessions, video lessons, AI-generated practice problems, optimized relentlessly for convenience and cost, often at the expense of the one thing it claims to enhance: student learning.

Our Values

Four commitments that do not bend.

Consistency

Same teacher, same time, same curriculum. Continuity is not an accident, it is the product.

Credentialed

Every teacher is degreed, licensed, and has taught at an accredited school within the last five years.

Curriculum

Real workbooks and textbooks. A backbone that frees teachers to teach instead of plan.

In Person

Every session, at your kitchen table. Presence changes the dynamic. Body language matters.

Pencils are disappearing. Textbooks are going digital. The hands-on, structured, relationship-driven instruction that produces genuine academic mastery has been quietly eroding. Big School House brings it back.
The Premise

Why in-person matters

Presence changes the dynamic.

A child who knows their teacher is coming tomorrow completes their homework differently. A teacher who can see a student's body language, notice the moment of confusion before it is articulated, and physically point to the place in the workbook where the mistake was made, is doing something a screen simply cannot replicate.

No screens as the subject No virtual substitutes

About Big School House

Questions about the company.

Why aren’t you a virtual platform?

Because in person is better. Body language, eye contact and physical proximity unlock something a screen cannot. We make a deliberate, values-driven choice to be in person, not because virtual is impossible, but because it produces a weaker result.

Why subscription instead of pay-per-session?

Because consistency is the product. A student who sees the same teacher every week, working through the same curriculum, builds a real academic relationship. Pay-per-session pricing rewards interchangeability, and that is exactly what we are trying not to be.
